THE PROJECT

CYBERSAFE – Prevention of Cyber-bullying, Grooming, and Sexting through Educational Activities and Artificial Intelligence Solutions

Building safer, more resilient and responsible digital school environments across Europe.

CYBERSAFE is an Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership in School Education designed to strengthen schools’ capacity to prevent and address cyberbullying, online grooming, sexting and emerging digital risks.

The project combines education, responsible Artificial Intelligence, teacher training, student participation and school safeguarding within a structured prevention model. Rather than responding only after harmful online situations occur, CYBERSAFE aims to help schools develop a more proactive, evidence-based and sustainable approach to digital safety.

WHY CYBERSAFE?

Digital technologies have become an integral part of children’s and young people’s everyday lives. At the same time, schools are increasingly required to address complex online risks, including cyberbullying, grooming, non-consensual sharing of intimate content, privacy violations and emerging forms of AI-generated manipulation.

Teachers and school leaders often have limited access to practical tools, specialised training and structured methodologies for dealing with these challenges. Existing prevention initiatives can be fragmented or focused primarily on reacting to incidents rather than embedding digital safety into everyday school practice.

CYBERSAFE was created to bridge the gap between rapidly evolving digital risks and schools’ capacity to prevent them effectively.

The project will develop a school-based prevention framework that combines AI-supported educational tools, teacher capacity building, student participation, social-emotional learning and safeguarding governance. Particular attention will be given to vulnerable learners, including students with migrant backgrounds, socio-economic disadvantages or special educational needs.

OUR MAIN OBJECTIVE

To strengthen schools’ capacity to prevent and address cyberbullying, grooming and sexting through AI-supported tools, structured teacher training and student empowerment.

01 — RESPONSIBLE AI FOR SAFER SCHOOLS

CYBERSAFE will design, develop and pilot an AI-supported Cyber Safety Toolkit aligned with ethical AI principles, GDPR requirements and school safeguarding standards.

The toolkit is intended to support prevention, educational reflection and informed school-level action rather than surveillance.

Expected results

Validated AI-supported Cyber Safety Toolkit
Ethical and data protection guidance
Practical implementation guidance for schools

02 — STUDENT WELLBEING & EMPOWERMENT

CYBERSAFE will implement structured prevention activities in 18 pilot schools, directly involving approximately 750 students.

Digital literacy activities will be combined with social-emotional approaches and peer participation. 50 students will be trained as Student Ambassadors, helping promote responsible online behaviour and a positive digital culture within their schools.

The project expects at least 70% of participating students to demonstrate improved awareness of digital risks compared with the baseline measurement.

03 — STRONGER TEACHER CAPACITY

CYBERSAFE will provide structured training and practical support to 100 teachers and school staff.

Educators will learn how to recognise and address emerging digital risks, use the CYBERSAFE tools, facilitate classroom prevention activities and integrate digital safety into educational and safeguarding practices.

At least 70% of trained teachers are expected to integrate prevention modules into classroom practice within six months of training.

DISSEMINATION & SUSTAINABILITY

CYBERSAFE follows a progressive implementation model. Research and needs analysis will first establish the scientific, pedagogical and ethical foundations of the project. These findings will guide the development of the AI-supported educational solutions.

The tools will then be tested and refined in real school environments. Teachers will receive dedicated training, students will participate in structured intervention cycles and Student Ambassadors will support peer-led prevention.

Evidence from implementation will finally be translated into practical guidance, policy recommendations, an AI Integration Guide and resources supporting wider adoption and sustainability across Europe.

WHO IS CYBERSAFE FOR?

STUDENTS

The primary target group consists of 750 students from 18 pilot schools, covering primary, secondary and upper-secondary education.

Activities will be adapted to different ages and developmental stages: younger pupils will focus particularly on safe online behaviour and digital awareness, while older learners will work on critical thinking, responsible data use and peer engagement.

TEACHERS & SCHOOL STAFF

100 teachers and school staff will participate in training, mentoring and implementation activities, strengthening their ability to integrate digital safety into classroom practice and school safeguarding strategies.

SCHOOL LEADERS & EDUCATION AUTHORITIES

School leaders and public education authorities will contribute to institutional implementation, policy alignment, transferability and the scaling-up of successful practices.

FAMILIES & COMMUNITIES

The project expects to reach approximately 4,000 indirect beneficiaries, including parents, stakeholders and community members through communication activities, events and digital dissemination.

A EUROPEAN APPROACH

CYBERSAFE addresses challenges that do not stop at national borders. Cyberbullying, grooming, non-consensual content sharing and emerging AI-related risks occur across countries and are shaped by shared digital platforms and rapidly evolving technologies.

Testing the CYBERSAFE approach across different European educational contexts will allow the partnership to compare needs, validate methodologies and develop tools that can be adapted beyond individual schools or countries.

The partnership brings together schools, higher education, a regional education authority and a non-governmental organisation, connecting classroom practice with research, teacher training, inclusion and educational policy.

The resulting tools, implementation guidance, ethical protocols and policy recommendations are intended to support transferability and wider European adoption.

RESPONSIBLE AI, NOT SURVEILLANCE

AI SUPPORTING EDUCATION — NOT MONITORING STUDENTS

NO INDIVIDUAL PROFILING

NO BEHAVIOURAL RISK SCORES

NO AUTOMATED DECISIONS ABOUT STUDENTS

NO DIRECTLY IDENTIFIABLE STUDENT DATA

CYBERSAFE applies a strict privacy-by-design and safeguarding-by-design approach.

The project’s AI-supported tools are intended to provide prevention-oriented educational resources and aggregated insights. They will not collect or process directly identifiable student information such as names, personal email addresses, images, voice recordings, device identifiers or personal accounts.

During the pilot phase, data used for analytical purposes will be anonymised and aggregated at class or institutional level. Before implementation, the consortium will conduct a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) and adopt a common Safeguarding & Data Governance Protocol.
